What is HHW?

HHW is the leftover portion of household products that contain toxic chemicals, such as paint, cleaners, and products with warning labels. These wastes CANNOT be disposed of in your regular garbage.

How Should I Dispose of HHW?

Residents can drop-off their HHW at this location for FREE:

HHW Packing and Transporting Tips

  • Keep products in their original containers.
  • Do not mix products.
  • Place leaking containers in a larger plastic container with tight-fitting lid.
  • Secure products upright.
  • Transport products in trunk or pickup bed. Ensure adequate ventilation if transported inside passenger area.
  • Keep flammables out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat, spark, flame, or ignition.
  • Remain in vehicle upon arrival at facility. Be prepared to show ID or a utility bill.
  • Allow staff to off-load your HHW.
  • Containers larger than 5 gallons will not be accepted.
  • Maximum 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip.

  • Brake/transmission fluids and antifreeze
  • Household cleaners
  • Pool chemicals
  • Poisons
  • Gasoline and other flammables
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Paint (oil-based or latex) and paint thinners
  • Solvents
  • Household batteries
  • Car batteries
  • Small aerosol cans
  • Home-generated needles and syringes (in sealed hard-plastic or metal containers)
  • Unused medications (non-controlled substances)
  • Mercury thermometers and switches
  • Used motor oil and filters
  • Fluorescent tubes and bulbs
  • Propane tanks (barbecue-style, limit 2, maximum 7 gallons)
  • Cooking oil
  • Other types of household hazardous waste are also accepted

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS

  • Radioactive materials
  • Railroad ties or treated wood
  • Explosives (road flares are acceptable)
  • Medical waste
  • Asbestos
  • Controlled substances
  • Ammunition
  • Compressed industrial gas which is banned
  • Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), a banned chemical compound previously used in coolants and plasticizers
